As of September 9, 2014, the DEA passed the Final Rule on which types of businesses can become authorized to implement a drug take-back program in an effort to ensure pharmaceuticals are properly and safely disposed. The rule allows for more types of businesses to modify their registration with the DEA to maintain on-site drug collection receptacles and mail-back programs that accept controlled substances.
