Vaccine Adverse Events

The Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) document can be completed in response to an adverse vaccine reaction. The VAERS program is used to increase understanding of adverse events following vaccination and becomes part of the CDC “Epidemiologic Studies and Surveillance of Disease Problems.” For example, some states require pharmacists to file VAERS reports in the event of a patient’s adverse reaction to an immunization, and other states may take a different approach, such as requiring the pharmacy’s adverse event responses to be established by the patient-physician protocol.
