What is Med Sync?

Med Sync is a Game Changer!

Medication synchronization is a proactive approach for managing patients taking multiple chronic drugs. Under med sync, enrolled patients pick up or have their prescriptions delivered on a single day each month. It’s a fundamental shift in the historic pharmacy workflow where you fill prescriptions on demand and are constantly in a reactive mode. Med sync helps put you in the driver’s seat and move your pharmacy practice forward. More and more pharmacies are transforming their workflow to med sync so they can focus more on their patients’ and their pharmacies’ performance.

How It Works:

  1. Pharmacy staff targets, educates and recruits patients for med sync. Targeting is an important part of the process, especially when focusing on performance, inventory management and creating efficiencies.

  2. Pharmacy staff completes med sync enrollments at designated times (some pharmacies complete med sync enrollments daily, weekly or biweekly) which includes “synchronizing” prescriptions by completing short fills, as needed.

  3. Once a patient's prescription refill dates are aligned, staff calls patients 5 days prior to the pickup date to review medication list and remind patient of their pickup date.

  4. When patient comes to the pharmacy on the specified day to pick up all his or her prescriptions the pharmacist can engage the patient in adherence coaching on all medications as well as offer any additional clinical services.
